Kui A Lei - String A Lei Workshop at Haku Maui

Join us at Haku Maui for a day celebrating Lei and Pua! In this make-and-take Kui A Lei - String A Lei workshop, you'll learn how to create your own lei using the Kui Pololei and Kui Poepoe techniques with fresh tropical flowers, foliage, and traditional materials. In just an hour or less, you'll craft a beautiful Lei Kui to wear around your neck. We’ll guide you through the process using a lei needle and thread, teaching skills you can carry forward in your lei-making journey. Along the way, we'll delve into the cultural significance, meaning, and history of lei in Hawaiian culture. You'll gain insight into gathering and using natural materials while learning the art of lei-making, which requires patience and dexterity. We’ll cover both the singular Kui Pololei style and the double Kui Poepoe style, so you can incorporate both techniques into your creation.
